News for the WA Youth Theatre Company

What’s on?

Open Auditions!

Three brand new shows to cast – WA youth productions of world’s best new plays!

A series of productions have been chosen to offer our membership the best opportunity to hone their craft as actors with a professional director in a fully supported production.

We are looking for actors of all levels of experience to fit to a diverse program in 2014/15 including:

–       Our Major Scripted Production for Oct 2014 :  Punk Rock by Simon Stephens.

–       A Workshop Production of : That Face by Polly Stenham

–       A Workshop Production of : Crave by Sarah Kane

–       Our ‘New Writing’ Play Workshops

–       A 24 Hour Play Generator

We are also looking for young artists keen in every aspect of theatre production – from design and publicity to music and management – to get involved in practical mentorships with Perth’s best creatives working on our new shows.

So, if you are interesting in taking your theatre work to the next level, contact the WA Youth Theatre Company at info@waytco.com to register your interest and make and audition time for either our morning or afternoon session on:

When & Where:

Saturday, June 19 at the King St Arts Center, Perth – Level 1.

Morning Session @ 10.30am

Afternoon Session @ 2.00pm

 *if you cannot make either of these sessions please still email and let us know you’re interested we will try to find an alternative in special circumstances


 The auditions will be run in groups and we would love you to prepare a short contemporary or classical monologue to perform that is no longer than 2-3minutes in length. Please bring a copy of your script with you to the audition also for the auditioners.

You will have the chance to work in groups also so do not feel pressured to be perfect but present yourself as prepared as you can! We are as much interested in your choice of text (which can be from a play, a film or even a television episode if you like!) as how you choose to perform it and getting a chance to meet you.

The auditions will run for no longer than 2 hours total.

Act! Belong! Commit!

WA Youth Theatre Acting Workshops prepare you for the future!


Take the stage is all about exploring amazing stories! Participants will play games, build confidence, make new friends and discover the fascinating world of Theatre and acting!

With a firm focus on fun, participants in the Take the Stage series of classes will develop their key drama skills: laying the groundwork for future theatrical endeavours, building courage and problem solving skills along the way.

Participants will explore different aspects of verbal and non-verbal communication, play building, physical theatre and improvisation. Take the Stage is a warm, welcoming environment where we tailor the course for specific student needs while challenging them with new experiences. Within these classes every child’s opinion is respected and in turn every child learns to, or practices, being respectful and listening to others while exploring the world of theatre in a professionally supported and fun environment!

WHERE: King St Arts Centre, Large Meeting Room

WHEN: Sunday 27 July – Sunday 21 Sept @ 12noon – 2pm

COST: $225 per term.*

WA Youth Theatre Co  – Creating career pathways for young WA performing artists.

Acting Core Skills!   13 –  16 YEAR OLDS

The Core Skills Acting series offers young actors a solid training on which to build their art and a grounded introduction to acting and the work of the theatre.  The program focuses on demonstrating and teaching the building blocks of characterisation, rehearsing for the stage, improvisation, narrative development and an exploration of the techniques, which lay at the centre of our art. The Core Skills Acting seeks to inspire actors to challenge themselves whilst having fun within a community of like-minded passionate young artists keen to hone their raw talents and abilities.

This set of classes will provide young actors with the skills required to progress onto our own Major Productions while preparing them with the confidence and mindset required to seek out auditions as a young actor.

WHEN: Sunday 27 July – Sunday 21 Sept @ 2:30pm – 5pm

Working with peers and professionals to hone your craft.


The Advance Acting Course is for dedicated to focused work on the bracket of our membership exploring casting potential within our community and looking to become independent and original theatre makers. This series of classes is centered on alternative theatre-making methods, advanced acting techniques and intensive script work.

For those keen to prepare themselves for a career in the arts and feel ready to establish themselves as artists the program will provide a ‘tool-kit’ to take into the creative field and a community of artists with which to strive with in that work. For those looking to competitively audition for drama schools the course can offer that point of difference separating actors from theatre-makers and help prepare the auditionee as well as the work they do in the audition.
